Founded in 1929, and based for many years in its namesake village, the buses and coaches of Bere Regis & District Motor Services served the highways and byways of rural Dorset well for many a year until 1995. In the 80th anniversary year, John Hembry of Hazelbury Bryan, assisted by Colin Hallett of Yeovil, staged an anniversary run on 1st November, and this created a lot of interest. John was the owner of restored Bere Regis Bristol LH CLJ413Y from 2004 to 2011 and restored it to livery in 2006, having acquired it from Caradon Riviera Tours of Cornwall, where it stood derelict from 2001; whilst Colin has an ever growing photo collection of the firm ( now nearly 900 pictures ). In 2011 the ownership of the LH passed to Jason Rayner of Winchester and subsequently in 2015 to Stuart Shelton of Tettenhall for further preservation. If you are interested in the pictures that are for sale please contact Colin Hallett at 40 Hillcrest Road, Yeovil, BA21 4RA. Or email him: yandc@live.co.uk Below are a few pictures of the LH taken by Colin a few weeks before the November road run when he and John returned her to Sherborne depot and to Colin's old school, where his interest in the firm all started. You can read about when Colin worked for the firm at their Sherborne depot here. Since 2015 WHOTT have held an annual Bere Regis & District running day in Dorchester each August. |
