Older readers might just possibly remember the town of Fécamp as the home of the pre-war commercial station Radio Normandie.  The town has also been the home of the grey buses of the Arcangioli brothers for many years.  The family had been in the transport business in Grasse (in Alpes-Maritimes) in the south of France since 1913 and subsequently Oscar Arcangioli founded Autos-Cars Gris at Fécamp in 1931. The very first route, using two small buses, ran four times a day each way between Saint-Pierre-en-Port and Fécamp from 11th June. A twice daily service through Etretat to the port city of Le Havre at the mouth of the River Seine started on 1st October. In February two more Arcangioli brothers joined with Oscar, these were Pierre and Septime. By the end of 1932 there were twenty vehicles (typically with 21 seats) and three main routes which included two different routes from Fécamp to  Le Havre  - the original one by the coast via Etretat and Sainte Adresse, the other inland via Goderville and Montivilliers.  The third principal route ran from Fécamp through Bolbec and Lillebonne to Notre Dame de Gravenchon.

Mobilisation at the outbreak of war meant loss of both vehicles and drivers, and there were instances of buses coming under fire in their daily duties. The bus station at Le Havre was destroyed by bombardent in May 1942.   Services were restored after the liberation with twenty four buses serving the three main routes with a frequency of 14 departures each way via Etretat to Le Havre; 11 via Goderville to Le Havre; and 5 to Bolbec and Gravenchon.  By 1956 there was a staff of 50, of whom 22 were drivers. Typical seating capacity of the vehicles had now risen to 45 places, and they were carrying more than a million passengers a year.

In later years a fourth route linked Fécamp to Yvetot station. A fast 'Rapid Bus" service linked Fécamp to Le Havre from 1987, reducing the journey time to 45 minutes, with just one intermediate stop at Goderville. This was discontinued in 2007 when the Seine Maritime département introduced their 2 euros anywhere flat fare scheme on the interurban bus routes throughout their administrative area. The Autos Cars Gris company is no longer owned by the Arcangioli family, it was sold by Benoit Arcangioli (Oscar's son) some years ago in 1992/93 (other sources say 1995) to the SNCF railway bus company Cariane. They later merged with Via-GTI to form the Keolis group, who control many French urban and interurban transport operations.  In 2002 Autocars Gris of Fecamp employed 154 staff and had a fleet of 101 vehicles.
